The switch

Well this is my first post using Blogger for Word, so I’ll let you know that I think at the end of the post.  I had been using w.bloggar for ever, and it worked well, but I had some complaints.  Mainly, it would hide itself in the taskbar when minimized.  More then once I would forget it was open, reboot, and then my half written post was gone.  This lead to more than enough excellent posts being lost forever.  I still have questions about some functional issues, so we’ll see how it goes.

Okay, I’ll try a picture…

Talk about a homo moment.  But at least they’re smiling.  That was from the Georgia game, and since then the Cats have played better in each outing.  There are going to be a lot of ups and downs the season.  For the first time in a while, the Cats are just as good as other teams in the SEC – not better.  Tennessee and Florida are going to be tests (although Florida is starting to look suspect, like Louisville did).  I hope we can go down to Vandy and get a W.  The Arkansas game this weekend will also be interesting, but I think we can pull it out.

April is starting to feel gradually better.  She’s still nauseous, but I think it’s slowly improving.  I think she’s starting to get some energy back as well.  She’s pretty exhausted when she gets home at the end of the day, but I wouldn’t expect much else.  She’s finally starting to get a little belly, so that’s really exciting.

I’ll just link a few things that I’ve found interesting from the last few days…

Future American lawyers to be proud of. - Alberto Gonzales spoke before law students at Georgetown today, justifying illegal, unauthorized surveillance of US citizens, but during the course of his speech the students in class did something pretty ballsy and brave. They got up from their seats and turned their backs to him.

Democrats and Republicans Both Adept at Ignoring Facts, Study Finds - Researchers asked staunch party members from both sides to evaluate information that threatened their preferred candidate prior to the 2004 Presidential election. The subjects' brains were monitored while they pondered.  "We did not see any increased activation of the parts of the brain normally engaged during reasoning," said Drew Westen, director of clinical psychology at Emory University. "What we saw instead was a network of emotion circuits lighting up, including circuits hypothesized to be involved in regulating emotion, and circuits known to be involved in resolving conflicts."

And now…

P.S. I don’t really like Blogger for Word.  Image links are too friggin’ hard.

What is Kentucky Basketball?

This went out at work today...

It's not a coach. It's not a player. It's pride...tradition. It's a 5 year old with a cat paw on his cheek saying, "Beat Louisville!" It's not a game. It's not a season. It's pride....tradition. It's expecting to be be dancing every year where most pray to be. It has no beginning. It has no end. It's pride....tradition. It's waiting for midnight madness when the March buzzer rings. Players that come are in awe of it. Players that leave treasure it. Players that oppose despise it. It's pride....tradition. It's getting the best from every opponent in hopes to top it. Rupp built it. Hall polished it. Sutton shamed it. Pitino restored it. Smith nourishes it. It's pride....tradition. Keightly has served it. Happy sang to it. Cawood lived it. It's pride....tradition. Digger hates it. Vitale and Packer are jealous of it. McGuire realized it. It's pride....tradition. What is Kentucky Basketball? It's "Blue and White" and "Go Big Blue" It's "C!-A!-T!-S! Cats!, Cats!, Cats!" It's pride....tradition. It's more than a pasttime It's more than a hobby. To some it's a religion. It's pride....tradition. It's K-E-N-T-U-C-K-Y on the jerseys. Win or Lose, that's all that matters to me.
Win or Lose - that's what makes a fan a fan.

Baby's first picture

And here they are...

Pretty cool, eh? :) We got to hear the heartbeat as well. The whole experience is indescribable. I'm sure I had a big stupid grin on my face the whole time.

On a more depressing note, the Cats stunk it up again last night. I think we have the pieces for a good team, but it's going to take a while for them to all fall in to place. Our shooting is awful, and we have taken a step backwards on defence. Once Randolph earns some respect in the post, it should open things up for everyone else. Hopefully we can knock down open shots, which we didn't do last night.

I'm coming to terms with the fact that we probably won't be very good this year. But hey, one doesn't stop being a fan just because their team isn't playing well, right?

News and more news

One of the big motivations for me getting my blog re-hosted is that April is pregnant! Among my previous ramblings, I'll have updates here about how everything is going, general thoughts on parenthood, and pictures when the baby finally arrives. We're going to the doctor today for a screening and an ultrasound, so that's exciting. I'll post a scan of the ultrasound picture once I get it.

I got Sirius satelite radio for Christmas and it rules. I've got it mounted up in my car, along with "home kits" for home and work. Due to our firewall, streaming from Sirius.com doesn't work well at the office. Currently they don't even stream the Stern show, but apparently they are going to soon. I am thoroughly enjoy the new, uncensored Stern. I've missed listening to it live ever since it went off the air here in Lexington. Thank God for torrents, since I was able to download the shows and listen to them a day later. Redskunk rules.

Okay.. work.
